Pinan Nidan
Pinan Nidan is usually the first Kata taught in the Wado Ryu syllabus but can be taught after foundation Kihon Katas.
It's name Nidan implies it is number two in the series but is thought to be easier to learn for begineers than Pinan Shodan (number one) and so the order has been reversed.
More recently the word "Pinan" is translated as "Safe from Harm" rather than an older translation "peaseful mind."
The original Pinan Series was develpoed by Anko Itosu in the 1890s and adopted into Wado Ryu by Otsuka Sensei on forming Wado Ryu in 1934.
